Joel taught that rising in consciousness to realized Christhood is not ultimately for our own benefit, but the means to uplift the consciousness of mankind universally and dispel the ignorance of truth that is at the root of all human trouble. He spoke often about how we as individuals can be an influence in bringing that freedom to the world.
On the first of each month, we post an excerpt about world work from Joel’s books or classes. The following excerpt is from Consciousness Is What I Am: Chapter 12, “Christ As the Consciousness of Mankind”:
“Every bit of spiritual light which you and I as individuals attain increases the amount of Christ-consciousness that is loosed in the world. ‘I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.’[1]
“If we attain any measure at all of Christ-consciousness, then those who are receptive respond and are lifted into a higher measure of Christ-consciousness and experience physical, mental, moral, or financial healing.
“Where there are groups who have studied for years and attained some measure of spiritual light, hundreds are being drawn to the light; and when there are hundreds who have attained spiritual consciousness, then thousands will be drawn to that light. Any measure of spiritual light that is raised up in a person immediately begins to raise up some member of his family, some neighbor, friend, relative, or stranger. This bears witness to the truth that the measure of the Christ raised up in one person is the measure of the Christ loosed in consciousness to raise up others.
“As we acknowledge the Christ, we are loosing more of the Christ into human consciousness and sin, disease, and death are thereby lessened. The day of living by the sword is passing. In the recognition of the Christ of our being, the Christ is on earth now instead of mortal man, the Christ as universal identity.”
