In the recording we heard on January 21 and 28, Joel mentions the book titled The Oxford Book of English Mystical Verse. He said:
” . . . all of modern metaphysics is based on the fact that we can pray to God here and now and get a direct answer, and that we can commune with God, and that we can receive illumination from God. And of course, throughout all history there have been people like Walt Whitman and the Transcendentalists of Boston, who we know from their literature were in direct communion with God, received direct impartations from God. As a matter of fact, there was a very wonderful book called The Oxford Book of English Mystical Verse, that has hundreds and hundreds of poems, all written under direct spiritual illumination by the great mystics of England for the past hundred and fifty or more years.”
