An Advent Calendar for the Christmas Season
IMPORTANT NOTE POSTED ON DECEMBER 21:
Some users were unable to access the musical selection for December 21 in the Advent Calendar. Evidently, the YouTube recording was re-posted recently to a different address. We have put the new link in the Advent Calendar, so if you have not yet opened door 21, you will be able to access the musical selection. To those who were unable to access the music, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and to make up for the problem, we have added a bonus musical selection to the calendar that will come up “sometime” in the next few days.
(Note: You always have the option to re-load the calendar and have access to the new December 21 link by clicking on the image below. But remember that if you do that, all doors may be closed, and you will have to open them again.)
Once again this year, our Christmas greeting to you comes as an advent calendar! We offer it with our most loving wishes for a blessed Christmas season filled with the light of Christ.
Jesus said, “I am the light of the world,” and “Ye are the light of the world.” The Christmas season is a wonderful time to contemplate the meaning of “light,” and spiritual light is the theme for the advent calendar this year. Behind each door on the calendar you will find an image depicting Christmas light, together with a quotation that relates to spiritual light. On some days, in addition to the quotation, there will be a Christmas musical selection for your enjoyment.
To view the calendar starting on December 1 (in your time zone), click/tap on the image below. Enjoy!
A few important things to know about using the calendar:
- You will have your own personal version of the calendar that keeps track of which doors you have opened. Like other websites, the calendar site uses “cookies” in your browser and on your device to remember your progress through the calendar and to personalize your experience. A “cookie” is a small piece of data that is saved on your device, and the first time you access the calendar, you will be asked to accept the cookies. If you wish to use the calendar, please accept them.
- Each door can be opened starting on the day (in your local time zone) shown on the door, but not before. For example, door 1 can be opened on December 1 or any day after December 1 and will remain open through the month. Similarly, door 5 can be opened starting on December 5, but not before.
- When you click a door, the picture, the quotation, and the musical selection (if there is one on that day) will open. To play a musical selection, make sure the sound on your device is on and not muted. To start the music, click on the arrow in the middle of the music image. The player and viewing controls will be at the bottom of the frame. To close an open day view, click/tap the white X at the top right of the picture. The “door” will take its place back on the calendar, but will remain open.
- If you use multiple devices to access the calendar, your status is kept on each device independently. For example, suppose that at first, you use your smartphone to access the calendar, and you open the first three doors from your smartphone. On Day 4, if you use your computer instead of your smartphone to open the calendar, the calendar software will think you are a new user, and doors 1 through 3 will not be open. However, you can certainly open them again from your computer. The same pattern applies if you change browsers even if you use the same device. For example, if you open the first two doors using the Safari browser, and switch to Chrome on the third day, the calendar software will assume you are a new user, and doors 1 and 2 will not be open. Of course, you can open them again from the Chrome browser.
Want to create a shortcut icon for the calendar on your device?
It is easy to create an icon on your mobile device that will take you directly to the calendar at any time.
On iPhone or iPad:

- Scroll down the “sharing” menu and tap on “Add to Home Screen.” Then tap “Add” at the top right of the page.
- The reindeer icon will show in the first open slot on your home page. You may need to swipe from the right side to see it.
- Now you can simply tap the reindeer icon whenever you want to go to the calendar.
On “Android” phone or tablet:
-
- Click on the image above to access the Advent calendar.
- From the advent calendar page, tap the three dots at the top right of the browser screen.
- From the menu, tap on “Add to Home Screen.” Then tap “Add” on the next two pop-up boxes.
- The reindeer icon will show in the first open slot on your home page. You may need to swipe from the right side to see it.
