We are pleased to let you know that our next study book will be Leave Your Nets, and we will begin our study of this book on September 19. Published in 1964, Leave Your Nets was probably one of the last books that Joel himself reviewed. The book does not suggest that we leave our careers, our homes, or our families, but explains that if we have placed our dependence on the things of the material world, we are actually limiting ourselves!
Leave Your Nets sets forth the premise that if we awaken from the hypnotic dream of living in a material world into enlightened spiritual consciousness, we recognize that we are already Self-complete, and that the fulfillment of every need can flow forth from the infinity of our true Being. Joel says, “When the call comes to you to leave your ‘nets,’ you will understand that you are called upon to leave behind the limited and limiting sense of existence because you are ready to drop your dependence on persons, things, and conditions of the world to live wholly in God… The true nature of your being is infinite, and from the depths of your being, infinity must flow…”
With the exception of just one chapter, Leave Your Nets is based entirely on the recordings from two of Joel’s early classes: the 1953 Second Seattle Class and the 1953 First Portland Class. Because the recordings associated with this book are concentrated in just two consecutive classes, we will use a slightly different approach in working with this book. We will play the recordings in the order in which Joel originally gave them, instead of following the book chapter by chapter. Of course, for each recording, we will reference the chapter or chapters in Leave Your Nets that used the recording as source material.
Joel’s early classes are a real treasure. He was still introducing The Infinite Way to the world, and his intention to have students understand the message gives these sessions a very special clarity. We look forward to sharing these wonderful classes with you.
If you wish to order Leave Your Nets, you can do so through the Acropolis Books website by clicking here. Remember that when you go through the Acropolis site, you can be sure that you will get the book edition that is from the legacy publisher of record. You are also supporting Acropolis Books, the one publisher that has made a longstanding commitment to preserve Joel’s writings and to ensure that they remain available for future generations.
At the end of the recording that we heard on August 1 (and will hear again on August 8), Joel talked about the pamphlet Love and Gratitude, calling it “one of the deepest messages I had ever heard.” If you do not have this pamphlet and would like to get it, you can order it from The Infinite Way Office by clicking here. You can also order it from Mystics of the World by clicking here and scrolling down on the page.
Joel also said that the first two times he spoke on love and gratitude, the tape recorder was not turned on, so those classes were not recorded. However, he said that the third time he spoke on love and gratitude at a class in Seattle, “God hooked up the machine” and the message came out in its fullness. That class is on recording #615, from the 1951 First Seattle Series, Tape 2, Side 2, titled “Gratitude and Love.” It can be ordered from The Infinite Way office on their website at www.joelgoldsmith.com, or by calling the office at 1-800-922-3195.
