Tape 120: 1955 Kailua Study Group
Side 2: “Christ Realized Is the Harmony of Being”
This class is simply a beautiful, inspiring, and inspired session from the 1955 Kailua Study Group, which was a series of classes that Joel gave in his home in Kailua, Hawaii, to about 25 advanced students. These small classes with advanced students were Joel’s delight, for he was in the comfort of his own home, without the cares or distractions of travel. He once said, “If I can have three, or four, or five students in my living room, you don’t know how happy I am, because the words just flow out, and there flow out such words as you never heard before, which can’t happen in a big roomful of people to whom such sacredness would be profane.” When you hear this class, you will understand what he meant.
Now that we have concluded the recordings for the eight most important chapters, we are hearing classes in which Joel focuses on how to PRACTICE the principles. We have heard Joel say many times that the principles are of no benefit until we actually practice applying them in our everyday lives. In these inspiring classes, Joel counsels us on ways to practice what we have learned intellectually, so that these principles become our realized, illumined consciousness.

Tape 506: 1962 Capetown Class
Side 2: “The Spiritual Bond”
During these two weeks, our study chapter was “Relationship of Oneness” in The Art of Spiritual Healing. Once again, this was a chapter that used excerpts from many recordings—thirteen of them—as source material, so no one of the recordings fully embodied the message of the chapter. We believe that the recording we selected captures the essence of the chapter more fully. This recording was used as source material for Chapter 5, “The Spiritual Bond” in The Gift of Love.
Tape 390: 1961 Maui Work
Side 2: “The Mystical Life through the Two Great Commandments” (repeat)
Our study chapter for this week was “Love Thy Neighbor” in Practicing the Presence. Since Practicing the Presence was first published in 1958, the source material for the book was limited to the class recordings made before 1958, and eight different classes were used for this chapter. Since only a small part of each source class was used, no one of the individual classes reflect the message of the chapter in its fullness. However, later in his ministry, Joel gave some classes that presented a more complete picture of the message in “Love Thy Neighbor.” This class is one of those.
Tape 121: 1955 Kailua Study Group
Side 2: “Where the Spirit of the Lord Is, There Is Liberty”
This recording addressed the topic of spiritual freedom, an appropriate subject to contemplate just before the celebration of Independence Day in the United States on July 4. It is one of many classes that provided source material for Chapter 16, “The Fruit of the Spirit,” and Chapter 17, “Illumination, Communion, and Union,” in The Art of Meditation.
Tape 476: 1962 Princess Kaiulani Open Class
Side 1: “A New Form of Practice”
Our current study chapter is “Introduction” in Practicing the Presence. There is no recording that was used as source material for this chapter, so we have chosen one that closely aligns with the message in the chapter.
Tape 369: 1960 Maui Work
Side 2: “Contemplation Develops the Beholder”
This is the one class that is the basis for our study chapter, “Contemplation Develops the Beholder,” which is Chapter 8 in the book The Contemplative Life.
Tape 241: 1958 Maui Open Class
Side 1: “The Practice that Makes You Free”
Our study chapter for this session is “Break the Fetters that Bind You,” which is the 1958 October Infinite Way Letter, now found in the book The Heart of Mysticism. This class is the one class used as the basis for this chapter. Joel says of this particular Letter, “The few thousand words which you have just read in this Letter embody one of the most important principles of my lifework. … If you will read and study this message and glimpse its underlying truth, the substance of this Letter may prove to be a turning point in your life and may be the means of ushering in a new day in your experience.”
Tape 314: 1960 Denver Closed Class
Side 2: “Foundation of Our Day”
Our study chapter for this session was “Protection,” which is the 1955 March Infinite Way Letter, now found in the book The Heart of Mysticism. If there was a class source for this chapter, it is not listed in The Compendium. However, this recording is an excellent fit for the chapter. The recording was one of several used as the basis for Chapter 10, “Dominion through Daily Realization,” in Awakening Mystical Consciousness.
Tape 23: 1953 New Hawaiian Series
Side 2: “God Is, continued”
Our study chapter for this session was “God Is One” in the book Living The Infinite Way, the second in Joel’s list of the eight most important chapters. This recording is the class upon which that chapter is based.
Tape 113: 1955 Kailua Study Group
Tape 4, Side 2: “The Secret of the Healing Principle”
Our study chapter for this session was “The New Horizon,” in the book The Infinite Way. This is the first chapter on Joel’s list of the “eight most important chapters” in The Infinite Way writings. Since this chapter came to Joel in a dream, it is not based on a class recording. However, the recording we chose beautifully presents the message in that chapter. At the end of the class, Joel says,
“This is without any question of doubt the not only deepest lesson of the message of The Infinite Way; it is the one I give seldom. Probably not more than four times in eight years have I given this lesson, and then not in just this way … and actually it forms the chapter, ‘The New Horizon.’”
This class is the basis for the June 1957 Letter, “The Secret of the Healing Principle,” in The Heart of Mysticism.
Because this is such an important chapter, we prepared some additional reference material with quotes from Joel about its meaning and significance. To view or download this material, click here.
Tape 10: 1952 New Washington Series
Tape 9, Side 1: “The Easter of Our Lives”
This recording is available as a pamphlet. It is also included in the book Collected Essays of Joel S. Goldsmith. In the Infinite Way Letter for February 1957, Joel wrote about the message that he gives on this recording. He said, “The Easter of Our Lives was an actual experience which took place Easter Week, several years ago in Seattle. While standing on the platform about to begin a lecture in the Seattle Truth Center, this vision appeared, and from my lips came the message of The Easter of Our Lives.”
Tape 453: 1962 Mission Inn Closed Class
Tape 3, Side 1: “Special Reference for Study and Practice”
This is the first recording in our study of the “eight most important chapters” that Joel identified in The Infinite Way writings. In this class, Joel describes the eight chapters, and with great enthusiasm, he talks about the value of each one. This class was not used as source material for any book, but is a perfect introduction to our study program.
Tape 427: 1961 New York Special Class
Tape 1, Side 1: “World Affairs Spiritually Handled”

Tape 478: 1962 Princess Kaiulani Open Class
Tape 5, Side 1: “Continuing Infinite Way Healing Principles”
This is the second of the two classes that were used as source material for Chapter 11, “Lifting Up the I,” in Realization of Oneness.
Tape 477: 1962 Princess Kaiulani Open Class
Tape 4, Side 2: “Infinite Way Healing Principles”
This is one of two classes used as source material for Chapter 11, “Lifting Up the I,” in Realization of Oneness.
Tape 278: 1959 Manchester Closed Class
Tape 2, Side 2: “Impersonalization Illustrated”
This class is one of several used as source material for Chapter 10, “It Shall Not Come Nigh Thee,” in Realization of Oneness. It was also used in Chapter 6, “Living the Principle of Impersonalization.”
Tape 270: 1959 San Diego Special Class
Tape 3, Side 1: “The Process of Infinite Way Healing and Its Principle”
This class is one of several used as source material for Chapter 9, “The Revelation of Spiritual Identity,” in Realization of Oneness. In this class, Joel refers to a book that is to be published, saying ” I hope within a year or two that the book will be published which tells you how we got into this human scene, separate and apart from God.” If you were wondering, the book to which he is referring is The Thunder of Silence.
