Quote from Joel in support of Study Method 2

“As we read Scripture or read these writings, we should draw from them a meaning of our own. The fact that your fellow student doesn’t agree with your interpretation has nothing to do with it. One may be right and one wrong, and both may be right, and both may be wrong, and yet, it is of no importance. The importance is that each draws from their study some individual message that is their own. …

“These writings are not written in quotable language. In other words, they are written from the standpoint of the way I’m speaking so that you can get the essence of what I’m saying, but you’d have a very difficult time quoting me in exact words because I don’t speak in headlines. I don’t speak in quotable quotes. I don’t speak in the type of language that lends itself to ready quotation. And so, if you are to understand the writings of The Infinite Way, it is necessary that you read them and draw the essence, the meaning of the words from them, rather than learn the words themselves.”  (Recording 99A: 1954 Northwest Series – Seattle, “Thy Grace Is My Sufficiency and A Note from Hawaii)

“All these tapes have are words. But the words only take importance as they become interpreted in your consciousness. And it may take many, many hearings of those words before you begin to get the meaning that I put into them; the meaning I put into them is the direct result of thirty years of this work. What you get out of them will depend on how much work you put into them.” (Recording 248B: 1959 Maui Advanced Work, “Bread for the Body; Hyacinths for the Soul.”)
