The 1962 Los Angeles Closed Class is a beautiful class that focuses on the subject of prayer.  On the last evening of the class, Joel testified to the power of the class when he said,

“This is the first Saturday night in sixteen years of classwork that I can truthfully say, ‘I’m sorry.’ With every class, Saturday night has been my joy; I’ve been released from something terrific. But tonight is an exception—the first one in sixteen years.”

In the class, Joel addresses the aspects of prayer, including:

  • The meaning of prayer
  • The object of prayer
  • Prerequisites for prayer
  • How to be in a receptive state for prayer
  • The atmosphere, altitude, and attitude of prayer
  • Why prayers are not answered
  • How prayer leads us to the nature of God as I
  • Prayer and healing
  • How to live a life of prayer

Many of these class recordings were used as source material for The Altitude of Prayer.

Our Approach to Study

We will listen to the 1962 Los Angeles Closed Class sessions in the order in which Joel gave them.  For each recording, we will reference any book chapters that used the recording as source material. After we hear a recording for the first time, we will post that recording in the Study Center for the duration of the study program and for four weeks after we conclude the program.  This will enable students to access all recordings for the study program, regardless of when they begin to participate.  We are most grateful to Sue Ropac for supporting our study program by allowing us to post these copyrighted recordings.
